Being on the road can take its toll.....
A few weeks back we were on the road in sunny Alberta when nearly everything to do with transportation went haywire. First off, driving North from Cranbrook B.C. the trailer on the bus blew a tire without anyone on the bus noticing. After a few miles a passing motorbike drew our attention to the trailer. We pulled over and not only was the tire gone, the rim was toast.
After a pit stop at a u-haul dealer we were back on the road with a u-haul trailer (we'd get a new tire and rim for our trailer later). After about another 45 minutes the u-haul trailer popped off the back of the bus and slammed into the back of the bus. There had been a slight communication gap in the hooking up of the aforementioned u-haul.
The next day after a great gig in Canmore AB we were heading for Grand Cache AB. for "Deathfest". We got about 20 kms East of Jasper when the transmission blew on the bus. I limped the bus back to Jasper and we started searching for a van or truck to rent that could haul our trailer full of our gear. Being a Friday of a long weekend there was no such van or truck available. We rented a car but that was only going to get us to the gig, not our gear.
5PM Friday evening we were S.O.L. for getting to the gig that night. P. Thuddy, our drummer, thought that it might be a good plan to walk up and ask the next truck with a trailer hitch, that pulled into the gas station that we were at, if they could pull our trailer to Grand Cache AB - 3 hours away. We all thought, "Good Luck buddy". After talking to the next truck that pulled into the gas station we had a winner!!!!
To our amazement these 2 guys, Brent and Josh along with Josh's 6 year old son, had nothing to do that weekend and were on a Rock and Roll roadtrip of their lives!! They towed our trailer to Grand Cache AB. with 2 hours to spare before the show!! They saved the gig! They also became honourary roadies!! We set them up with t-shirts, hotel rooms, beer and pizza. They had such a blast that they towed our trailer to Edson the next day for a CRAZY show at the Biggest Slo-pitch tournament in North America! We think that that was one of the best shows we have ever done!
A big thanks goes out to Josh, Brent and Josh's son for one hell of a tour and saving a Rock and Roll tour from near disaster!!
Cheers!!!
